Charcuterie Chips

Who needs chips and dip when you can have Charcuterie Chips. This easy, 5-minute snack is worth the hype! It’s perfect for a date night in, dinner party or just because! Chips, Brie, Speck, arugula and cherry jam combine to create the most satisfying bite! These chips are crispy, crunchy, creamy, peppery, salty and slightly sweet. It’s everything you love about a charcuterie platter but in chip form! This dish is giving big charcuterie chip energy!

My Charcuterie Chip recipe starts off with a bag of kettle chips. These thick-cut chips are batched cooked in hot oil which give them their quintessential crispy and crunchy texture. Plain kettle chips are often the go-to! But why not spice things up, both literally and figuratively, with Salt and Ground Pepper Kettle Chips. They’re salty and spicy and perfectly compliment all the ingredients in this dish.

The chips are then adorned with Speck and Brie. If you’ve never had Speck, you are missing out! Speck is a savoury and lightly smoked, dry cured ham that it seasoned with spices, such as garlic, juniper, bay leaves and rosemary, and is sliced incredibly thin. With origins in the South Tyrol region in northern Italy, this cut of meat is essentially the smoked version of Prosciutto. It’s more pronounced and robust in flavour relative to its counterpart, darker in colour and firmer in both texture and consistency. Next, Brie, a soft cow’s milk cheese, is cut into bite-sized pieces and arranged over top of the chips. The Brie gives this dish a buttery, earthy and mild flavour profile and a creamy and rich consistency.

A handful or two of arugula is layered over top. This peppery and bitter green gives these Charcuterie Chips added brightness, freshness and earthiness. Cherry jam is then dolloped onto the chips, imparting fruitiness, sweetness, tartness and nutty undertones.  All the ingredients combine to create an easy, elevated and satiating snack. This dish is sweet, salty, savoury and quite the vibe! Why choose between a charcuterie platter and chips, when you can have both!

Charcuterie chips are the ultimate no-cook snack or meal! I’m talking maximum flavour with minimal effort! This viral recipe couldn’t be easier to make, comes together in 5 minutes and uses a handful of simple and everyday ingredients. So, let me show you how it’s done. Notes:

  1. A Bag of Chips and then Some: Kettle chips come in a variety of shapes and flavours! Plain or wavy is the name of the game from a texture perspective! While you can use either for this recipe, I prefer wavy or ruffled kettle chips, given their structural integrity and strength. These chips are slightly thicker and serve as the perfect vessel for all the charcuterie toppings. Kettle chips come in a variety of flavours – from Plain, BBQ, Salt and Vinegar, Ranch, Ketchup, Dill Pickle, Jalapeño and Salt and Ground Pepper. I love using Salt and Ground Pepper kettle chips in this recipe given their bold, savoury and slightly spicy flavour profile. If you can’t find Salt and Ground Pepper chips at your local grocer, simply substitute them with Plain, Salt and Vinegar or Jalapeño for comparable results. Plain kettle chips let the charcuterie ingredients shine while the tanginess of Salt and Vinegar or the spiciness of the Jalapeño balance out the creamy nature of the Brie and the salinity of the Speck. Whatever option you choose, you really can’t go wrong!

  2. No Ham About It: There’s just something about Speck! If you don’t have Speck at home or can't find it at your local grocer, simply substitute it with Prosciutto on a 1:1 basis for equally delicious results.

  3. Jamming to these Chips: The sweetness and tartness of the cherry jam perfectly complements all the ingredients in this dish, balancing out the saltiness of the chips and Speck and richness of the Brie. If you don’t have cherry jam on hand or can’t find it at your local grocer, simply substitute it with your favourite fruit jam. Blueberry, fig, raspberry and mixed berry jams or orange marmalade would work beautifully here!
