White Christmas Margarita Recipe

White Christmas Margarita - when snow globes come to life in drink form! If the holidays were a cocktail, this cocktail would be it! A classic Margarita gets a festive twist with my White Christmas Margarita recipe. This holiday version throws white cranberry juice and coconut milk into the equation, channelling snowy, winter vibes! This drink is bright, creamy, frosty, refreshing, slightly sweet and tart and couldn’t be more delicious! It’s the cocktail you’ll be making on repeat this holiday season! Shake, sip and be merry!

A classic Margarita is comprised of blanco tequila (also referred to as silver or plata tequila), orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or Grand Marnier) and lime juice. This popular tequila cocktail is served chilled in a salt-rimmed glass, which enhances the flavours of all the ingredients. My White Christmas Margarita recipe includes the traditional components of a classic Margarita but incorporates white cranberry juice and coconut milk for some holiday cheer! The cranberry juice gives this cocktail a sweet and tart flavour without adding colour to this drink. Canned coconut milk is added to the mix and gives this Christmas cocktail a creamy, rich and tropical taste and a velvety consistency. It’s opaque, white colour gives this drink a snowy feel, synonymous with a winter wonderland.

Blanco tequila, white cranberry juice, coconut milk, orange liqueur and freshly squeezed lime juice are added to a cocktail shaker and shaken until frothy and chilled. The cocktail is then strained into a coconut and lime-rimmed bar glass, mimicking snowflakes, and poured over ice. Fresh cranberries and a sprig of rosemary are added to the glass, serving as a magical garnish. And, there you have it – this cocktail is holiday ready!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas with this cheerful, winter cocktail recipe! My White Christmas Margarita recipe comes together in under 5 minutes, uses a handful of simple and everyday ingredients and couldn’t be easier to make! Holiday cheer is best served with a festive pour! So, let me show you how it’s done. Grab a spoon and come and cook with me!

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 0 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Serves: 1

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ ounces blanco tequila

  • 1 ounce white cranberry juice

  • 1 ounce canned coconut milk (See Notes below)

  • ½ ounce orange liqueur, such as Cointreau

  • ½ ounce freshly squeezed lime juice (approx. ½ medium lime)

  • A lime wedge, for the rim

  • ½ Tbsp sweetened or unsweetened coconut flakes, for the rim

  • Ice cubes

  • 3 fresh cranberries, as a garnish

  • Sprig of fresh rosemary, as a garnish

Instructions:

  1. Add coconut flakes to a small plate and set aside.

  2. Rim a bar glass with a lime wedge and dip it into the coconut flakes, pressing down ever so slightly to allow the coconut flakes to adhere.

  3. Fill half of the cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Pour in the tequila, cranberry juice, coconut milk, orange liqueur and lime juice. Cover and shake for 30 seconds or until chilled and frothy.

  4. To the coconut-rimmed bar glass, add a large ice cube (or a few smaller ice cubes). Strain the White Christmas Margarita into the glass and garnish with fresh cranberries and a sprig of rosemary. Serve and enjoy! Cheers!

Notes:

  1. Canned coconut milk: I love using canned coconut milk for this recipe. Its smooth, rich and velvety and gives this drink a tropical flavour and snowy colour. When using canned coconut milk, it's very important that you shake the can vigorously for at least 30 seconds before opening. Canned coconut milk naturally separates when stored, leaving you with a layer of coconut fat (or cream) at the top of the can and coconut water at the base. Shaking re-emulsifies the coconut milk ensuring a consistent distribution, texture and flavour and results in a more desirable drink.

  2. What to Do with the Remaining Can of Coconut Milk: This recipe only uses an ounce of coconut milk, leaving you with almost a full can of coconut milk. So, let’s put that canned coconut milk to good use with my Carrot Soup, Butternut Squash Soup, Breakfast Curry, Mashed Sweet Potatoes, Tropical Chia Pudding and Viral One Pan Red Thai Curry Dumpling recipes!
